Once the date and venue are confirmed, contact your DJ and other vendors. It’s important that each provider knows where the event will take place to confirm feasibility.

After browsing Google to find the RIGHT DJ, make sure they really are the right one! Consider these criteria :

- Your budget should align with their pricing.

- Musical compatibility: the DJ should be comfortable with the music styles you love.

- Check for a minimum of experience. A look at their client feedback and/or portfolio will help.

- You should have a contract—it protects both you and the DJ when it’s well drafted. How often have I been contacted less than a month before the event because the DJ went radio silent? Too often.

- Feeling! In the events world, it’s everything. If your meeting was productive, you shared smiles and laughter, they understood right away and gave great advice—then don’t look further. You’ve found your match !

There are two types of lighting:

- Dancefloor lighting: enhances your dancefloor dynamically. If you have lyres, you get very dynamic lighting. Depending on the provider, this lighting adapts live to the dancefloor. I use a new system called LIGHTBAR, which puts everything that would go on a cumbersome aluminum truss onto a single tripod. You save space and energy—it’s much simpler to set up. Using a tablet program, I can offer different atmospheres in line with the style and rhythm of the music.

- Architectural lighting: ambient background light to set the tone. If your venue already has elaborate lighting, you might not need more. But with battery-powered spotlights (6 to 12 units), you can decorate using washwalls (wallwashers). I always compare it to background music during the meal: not essential, but a beautiful detail if you have it. It’s offered as an option.
